losing games to my own bad play

That's good advice you just gave to yourself. Slow it down, dont hurry and carefully inspect whats attacking you and what you are attacking on the next move.

You have to learn an opening man. Check out some opening lessons on youtube and focus on learning one opening for white and one for black. Playing random stuff is a waste of time.

Literally the worst kind of advice you can give to someone rated 100-something.

So you recommend to start playing chess without any opening knowledge, push any pawn to start the game, bring the queen out and no plan needed? Youre a bright one arent you

Yes he is.
At sub 2000 and especially sub 1000, learning an opening without understanding is completely wasted effort because you will stay in the opening at most 5-10 moves.
First you work on tactics, then you work on positional principles.

really luck has very little to do with winning -- either you understand the game or you don't --either it comes as second nature to see the moves before they happen or you don't -- learning and luck have only about 10 % of the factor of the game-- its a natural played game for those that have the gift

i don't

having said all that saturday morning equal wins and losses -- but i feel if i play more i will lose a more games this morning -- time to break and go outside and chop some wood a tree fell down last night and its across my driveway its a small tree only 6 inch in dia so with help from my neighbour won't take long he is really strong and knows alot about chainsaws -- will be back

Nope. There are three groups:
* Those that understand the game
* Those that don't understand and work to fix it
* Those that don't understand and make no effort to learn
You are in group 3 when your posts make clear, you should make the effort to move to group 2.
You can start to make that move by increasing the tactics you do. The free tier has 5 puzzles a day. You are averaging 2 days of puzzles a month.
You can also review your games. If you don't want to pay for a premium subscription, you can export the PGN of your game and analyse it on lichess for free.
But your opponents are likely to be reviewing games. Not doing it is a recipe for misery.
You are in

BTW Idk if you saw but the #1 reason your daily rating is slipping is because you lost a bunch of daily games on time today (check your game history)

LOSTATCHESS

well that may well be - i don't check my past games --down to 478 -- so couple more down the pike i guess -- trying that new e3 opening read in forums yesterday really not much i can do about losing out to time i play the games as they are presented maybe 5/6 times a day -- about 10 games going on at a time so thats about 50 /60 moves a day - thats a lot for my feeble brain -- plus read the forums - i do have to sleep when the meds take hold so i - i will miss those games i guess -- as long as i get to 30 moves per game i will be happy -- i ones i miss out on with timed out i have to accept them as they are

thanks for the input

LOSTATCHESS

one thing i did noticed dropping under 500 was that i am playing a lot more even ranked players than before mostly in the 450 to 700 range before when i was over 500 i was playing 1200 1000 1300 players so some good can of it

That might be a thing to consider doing - Chess.com gives you one free game review per day. That way, you can really understand where you made mistakes and where your opponents are finding their wins (trust me, it really helps boost your rating).

then please don't read it and waste your time --it's for my consumption and document of travel in the chess world and only when i have a question i post other places so thanks for the input

Make ur own blog, it's not that hard.

AGC-Gambit_YT

Don't read it my foot, nobody gives a crap, and you're clogging up the page.

LOSTATCHESS

sorry you feel that way - and yes you are right nobody gives a crap --- why do you ?????

AGC-Gambit_YT

Because it's clogging up the page. My post is one sentence it's not that hard to read the whole thing.

LOSTATCHESS

TIME TO JUST IGNORE YOU

to my many friends who priv. message me from time to time ignore him like wise

sat morning started two new games 24 hour and reached 30 moves in one other game - so pretty good morning for the start for the month

keep on plugging all you under 500 players

LOSTATCHESS

just reviewed my games page and i have noticed as was pointed out to me from an above poster the number of losses due to timing out -- really not sure how to correct this - i play four five times each day on every game thats maybe 10 games each time i play -- so maybe 5 moves per day per game - what should i do so as not to lose so many games to time outs - i play all the notified games that come up when they do in my main page --- i know iam missing something about these 24 hour games --- should i play a different longer game ?????

Qoiuoiuoiuoiu

A good habit is to move in all your games where you have under 24 hours remaining. If you do find yourself consistently losing on time, try switching to 3 days or 7 days games.

AGC-Gambit_YT

Or maybe just do all the games!

LOSTATCHESS

thanks for the advice on 3 day games i will try those

LOSTATCHESS

SUNDAY MORNING -- all games moving on as before just ok --two games just got over 30 moves so happy about that --couple of games i seem to be pinned in a little -- trying the e3 starting move to see if it works any better -- very cold /Icey outside so deiced the porch and cleaned the car windows -- will get back to chess when rest of work is done

Qoiuoiuoiuoiu

Oh, by the way - I checked out your most recent rapid games and I have a little bit of advice.

Firstly, you have 10 whole minutes on your clock! That means you can spend waaay more time analyzing each move (Right now you're only spending a little bit of time on each move. Try spending 5-10 seconds for each move, checking to see if you're hanging a piece or making a blunder - you have the time).

Secondly, at your level games tend to be more wild. I noticed you tend to resign quickly in the opening when you drop a piece like a bishop. At your level, you have a chance of winning the bishop back, so hope isn't lost!

Edit: This is directed to LostAtChess, not you ChessAGC_YT

AGC-Gambit_YT

Bro ur 500 don't give me advice. Those were mouseslips or me not paying attention.

AGC-Gambit_YT

Win bishop back, my foot. That literally happens once in like 25 games.
