It depends of the position, but usually the Queen is better than rook + minor piece.
See Guelfand-Anand during their championship match or Karjakin-Nakamura yesterday in Norway.
Of course there are also position in witch the two pieces are better than the queen, but that's quite rare.
Losing your queen but gaining a Rook + Minor Piece

If you mean from starting position where white Queen and Black Rook and Black Knight are removed, then I would rather play Black.
It doesn't mean I will win. But I can play it against opponents with 200 -400 points stronger than me without any difficulties.
Well, I don't know what will the result if I play vs a 2000+ rating opponent.
There have a been a few games that I played where my Queen gets pinned to a position early and it's forced to die, but In exchange I capture a rook + minor piece.
The strange thing is, I usually find myself coming out on top in these games. Sometimes I see the pin coming in response to my move, but I let it happen anyways, because I feel I can make it up in the long run by gaining a superior position.
I think there might be an inherent advantage with having your attacking power spread amongst a rook and minor vs concentrated in one piece (ie. dont put all your eggs in one basket). Allows for more maneuverability maybe...
So would you rather have your queen on the board, or a rook and minor piece?
Experiences and thoughts on such situations?
