Love the updated Tactics Trainer

i was one of the complainers when the april changes went into place

i did not have any complaints before these changes since i actually felt like i was being "trained" within each rating level (800, 900, 1000, etc.); the narrower range of puzzles, and even the repeats, were eventually ingrained and the next level seemed to introduce a new and subtle complication to the basic motifs

the tactic ratings changes in april seemed fine until it became clear i was just spinning my wheels- capturing the hanging knight with my pawn (a sub 1000 favorite tactic puzzle) was no longer the immediate response and some more observation was necessary- so many puzzles were giving +1, +2, etc. - no biggie, +1 is better than -11 - but i would have to string at least 8 or 9 in a row just to stay afloat

my hope would have been for new changes to give the dreaded -11 to puzzles which were significantly lower than one's tt rating and to give, at most, maybe a +10, for solving a tt problem higher than one's level and keeping most puzzles at a +/- 3 or 4

the recent changes seem arbitrary +21??; my new tt rating is in the 1400's and though i have at least seen some better puzzles than my dog days stuck in the sub 900's after the april changes
i will admit the recent changes this week seem to be too much in the wrong direction?

nevertheless, i am doing the tt again and not getting as frustrated as i was a few weeks ago; i also do tactics at another popular site and i feel both sites complement one another

I enjoy the TT learning tool very much. I dont take  the rating points seriously. I put more value on the correct-wrong percentage, either the overall % or you can keep track of your daily  results. Btw, try the Lessons tool. I feel that it is more instructive than TT.

I think that the major issue is determining the puzzles' rating.  I have seen many problems with a 20% or 30% pass rate that have 1100+ and 1200+ ratings.  The most egregious was a puzzle with a 975 rating and a 9% pass rate (two years earlier it had an 1100+ rating and an 11% pass rate).  If Chess.com can accurately rate the puzzles, many of the individual rating problems will go away, and the individual rating may become a good way to measure your progress.

Almost 1850, this can't be right.

It is totally right. Everyone can solve puzzles, but not everyone can play chess. Very different things, u know.
