Magnus and his jeans - dress and act like a brat, be treated like one.

Reading ur last post (above this one) I can't help but hear it in Douglas Murry's voice..... mainly because I just watched a couple of brief vids with him in them on youtube.

Y'all can dither over this all you want, but two points are inescapable:

1) The rules are the rules. If you don't want to follow them, don't show up.

2) Telling FIDE "f**k you" during an interview is just crass and immature.

Magnus may be a great chess player, but he didn't show any class or leadership here. I'm glad Gukesh is our World Champion now. Magnus has retired from that role...he should take a cue from Kasparov on how to do it with dignity. Throwing a hissy fit over his pants is not a good look.

FIDE had the hissy fit here. Magnus just came to play a chess game. Your powers of discernment are off. Magnus was not upset about the pants rule being invoked or the fine, he was just not going to walk back to the hotel between rounds and change his pants like a scolded toddler who didn't wash their hands before dinner. The way they tried to treat him was undignified, and they got undignified right back at them as a result.

Few things exudes lack of class more than when a relative nobody frowns upon the five time world champion and calls him brat.

Magnus and his genes are back for the Blitz!

I'm guessing a lot of players will wear jeans today that weren't even planning to wear jeans.

I'm wearing jeans.

There was nothing in the mainstream media about the recent world chess championship, yet Magnus turns up for a tournament in a pair jeans, and it gets attention from several media outlets.
Unbelievable

Jeangate. People like drama.

I'm trying to imagine Kasparov, or Karpov, or Anand, or Polgar, or even Kramnik whining and swearing on Youtube about being told to dress like an adult.

And I'm drawing a blank. I guess like so many other things, chess has become more childish. "Wah wah! They told me I can't wear jeans! I'm going home! Eff you, FIDE!"

Gukesh...save us.

Why was magnus the only one who complained when he didn’t follow dress code? take a look at ian nepo for example

Avatar of insane

Someone’s social standing determines if their actions are acceptable?

FIDE needs to be challenged. I've played in many tournaments in my active playing days and never once encountered a "no jeans" rule. It's just FIDE taking itself too seriously.

Kasparov challenged FIDE by creating his own World Championship. Carlsen challenged FIDE by wearing jeans.

Drama's not like it was in the olden days.

Magnus has the last laugh, he’s being sponsored by G Star to advertise their jeans.
