Can anyone else believe what Magnus Carlsen did against Fabiano Caruana in the SCC??? He played 3 hours of games with no losses!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The final score was 22 to 4 favoring the world champion. Fabi's only points were from 8 draws. Is anyone else absolutely shocked!!!!!!!!!!!

MothmanHArk

I am not that shocked by it. Just the same old magnus destroying the playing field.

Super-GM_Bald_EAgle10

Also Magnus Carlsen once played 30 games blindfold with 1 hour on each clock against each player with an average rating of 2000 elo and won 26 drawing 4 which shows just how good he is at all levels of this great game

proof? First time seeing this

At classical time controls (the only ones that really count) Magnus Carlsen has only managed to win one game out of ten against Ding.  The rest of the games were stalemates.

When Carlsen played Caruana in the 2016 world championship match, all of the slow games were drawn and Carlsen said there was very little difference in playing strength between the two players and he wouldn't have been devastated to have lost to him.

In the years since Carlsen seems to have gotten significantly stronger but not so for Caruana. I don't know why because Caruana is always working hard to improve.

Carlsen is a great player but has never dominated the way Fischer did.  Fischer wasn't pampered with grandmaster teachers and chess software like Carlsen was and the rest of the present generation.  He was a latchkey child who was given nothing but rose above his environment with a genius found only once in a generation.

Even in 2018, Magnus was much stronger than Fabi in speed chess, as he showed it in the rapid playoffs, winning 3-0 with no draws. It is not at all surprising that Magnus crushes Fabi in blitz. Not a lot has changed.

Fabi looked really tired when I first opened the stream.  Like he'd been dealing with the furnace not running all night or something.  It wasn't the Fabi I saw in the candidates or US Championships.  It doesn't take much for guys at that level to be off, but most times a bad day equals a loss in a game.  This was a long match where there's no stopping.  Fabi was playing that match starting early in the morning, Magnus was 6 or 7 hours ahead and playing mid-day mid-evening in prime time. In a match like this, and in addition to having to play Magnus when he's on fire,  it's a recipe for disaster.  I watched the first two games, then checked back in it was 9-3, and quit watching.  Nihal/Anish was the best match so far if you actually wanted to watch good chess.

No kidding! I saw that match and it was great! So close! They are fairly equal players, but I think Nihal has an edge especially in fast time controls.

I do tend to go off on rabbit trails, LOL!

i think carlsen just has a more significant edge over anyone especially fabi who while is a good elite speed player cannot be compared between players like hikaru or magnus. he is known more for being a titan and maniac in classical while blitz and bullet aren't his best strength in general.
