he's still pursuing chess, he just doesn't want to play wcc
Most World Champions didn't and the pressure to play every 2 years is ridiculous.
FIDE is ridiculous and the game would be better off without FIDE.

I saw a UFO. Didn't believe in them and I saw one over the town I live in. Stopped someone on the street and pointed it out. He saw it too. A bleedin flying saucer shaped object, probably at about 600 to 800 feet.

It's easy to believe in objects that are unidentified.
It's very hard to believe in aliens hiding behind clouds and appearing only to town drunks.

Very sad day for chess. The next world champion, be it Nepo or Ding, will never have the recognition as a "real" world champion, baring Magnus quitting chess entirely or the new "world champion" consistently winning high level events above Magnus and getting a better rating.

He does every so often. He once played in a Titled Tuesday a couple of months ago.
