Magnus is now first on the official ratings

Look guys, right now, we have a Vote Chess game against Pogonina. And Carlsen is about 2-3 times stronger than Pogonina (No offense!). If we would manage to get a draw against Pogonina, it will be IMPOSSIBLE to win Carlsen...so shut up! :P

EDIT: Holy Sh*t! I just looked at the FIDE ratings list, and just for fun I typed in my name...I'm a GM with a Rating of 2654 without even knowing! Oo

Out of curiosity: how do you measure times in chess? Are you talking about the expected number of points (Wexp)? Then I'm expected by FIDE to score only 0.14 points per game against Magnus - about 6 to 1 ratio. Smile

Of course nobody on this site can beat him.  He's 2800+ rated, and being trained by arguably the best chess player in history.

Unless Topalov, Anand or Kasparov himself play here, then no, nobody here can beat him.

Really? Trained by the best? What did Fischer rise again!?? When at his best nobody compares to Robert Fischer! Next was Capa, Kasp,, Anand, Karp,Tal, Lasker, Akiba Rubenstien, Alekhine, Morphy , Bronstein, Paul Keres --

I realize Fischer was world champion at one time -- but do you spastic Fischer lovers realize that there have been 15 some other world champions?  You pick the first player you know about without any kind of comparison.

Can you name off the top of your head 3 of Kasparov's claims to chess fame?  How can you compare then?  How about a different world champion?  You just run at the mouth about Fischer without knowing anything.  Yes Fischer was arguably the best, but you obviously know very little about it.

You realize Pogonina was saying she had even less of a chance than what his estimate was right?

Does anyone besides me think it's a bit impolite to refer to her as just "Pogonina"? Maybe Natalia Andreevna or Ms Pogonina, or something.

But maybe I'm just weird.

Well, maybe you're a little old-fashioned. I thought the convention of prefixing a "Miss" to women's surnames had died some time ago.

If people know who we're referring to, I don't see the problem with it. We refer to top male players by their surnames, so why not top women players as well?

There is that phenomenon of when you say Capablanca you've said enough. Like Cher...no wait...not like Cher at all.

Well, Ms. Pogonina, then I said that you are even stronger than you actually are! Wouldn't that be a compliment? :D

And, sorry that I simply called you "Pogonina" and not something else :).

And, it was just a guess on how stronger he is than you are...gg

It's just my opinion but there is a strong psycological aspect to Magnus being as high rated as he is. In my opinion his rating is inflated (bare with me here for a moment) when a Top rated GM sits down to sit with Carlsen they are immediately at a disadvantage because they feel they have to win and that they being the older more experinced player have to show who is boss. It makes them play sloppy lose and draw more often. Same thing would occur if WGM Pogonina plays Carlsen she in this case would be the "underdog" as so to speak. I would wager old Black Beard's treasure itself that in a 6 game match with classic time controls WGM Pogonina would at least walk away with a score of +1=2-3 or better given the situation.

lulz. He's been in the top 100 for over 4 years now. I'm pretty sure his opponents (who are reasonably intelligent) recognize him as a strong player and can look past his age.

GM's are more eccentric and prideful than you could ever fathom. But only time will tell if I'm correct.

All accounts I've read, GM's have acknowledged Carlsen's ability and playing strength.

Is there some GM annotation where it is concluded that the GM opponent played an abnormal game trying to show how young Magnus was?

Otherwise, this is just beginner yip-yap.

Denying it would be like denying the obvious...

You have to realize that's the world the top GMs live in.  They themselves were once the hot new young GM on the block, they watched the old guard go, and they recognize when the new ones come in.  To the general public, a grandmaster looks like chessmaster's old gray wizard looking fellow -- but the top ten know how strong the gifted youngsters are because they were all teenage GMs too.  What you're saying makes no sense.
