Actually, a willingness to play for hours, as long as there are any winning chances, has been Carlsen's hallmark. I expect we'll see more of that as he gets more comfortable
The Old Man will day dream doing the games also.

Waterboarding and flogging would certainly spice things up. Maybe digits should be amputated and eyes put out. The players' children and grand children could be sacrificed as well. This would give an advantage to older players, leveling the bloody playing field. Eventually we could just dispense with the chess pieces entirely and get right to it with mace and sword.
That crosses the line, imho. The point about waterboarding and the cat o' nine tails is that they cause no permanent damage.
Waterboarding or flogging the players' family members is an interesting angle that I hadn't considered though, but I fear that may still be taking it too far.
I like the draws. I hope they have twelve draws, and the title goes to whomever wins one game in the tie breaker. A one win champion would be quite funny.
With perfect play, all games would be drawn. That is why the draw percentage increases as a player's rating increases.
If you really want to do something about it, you probably have to go to a form of random chess, such as 960, tho' I'm not aware of solid information on the draw percentage compared to standard chess.
Or go to 30 games, first to 6 wins, tie and the champion retains the title. You'd still have draws, but there would be far better odds of some great chess as well.
but imho honest opinion problem was not the draw, which should be not news. But it is indeed that Carlsen draws as white in 16 moves and that today in move 18 Anand accepted the Queen exchange leading to a draw. There were not many chess till now. Anand Topalov had two decisive games at this point I expected similar emotions in this one
The problem is not the matches, but the current world championship format which fosters this strategy. Thus, take a look at my system which will nullify the inconsistencies with the current system.

We a winner takes all game. If they draw we play till some body wins.
Problem solved. It will be exciting.
The pre game comments will be off the charts.
Post game interviews will be viewed over and over again as much as the game itself.

yes, or watch chess world championships between 5 year olds, which should have a lot of crazy sacrifices and unbalanced positions, with crazy openings and lots of drama and excitement.

Right. Wouldn't want to take it too far. Just waterboarding and the lash. What's a few scars on the back for the sake of art? There should definitely be a limit on the age of the children tortured in the name of good chess. No one under . . . what? five years of age?
I fear that five years of age may be too low. It could cause serious trauma to a fragile, developing psyche. The real problem with children is that many won't have children, and if you use other family members, you run into the problem of (for example) Carlsen not caring about his sister as much as Anand cares about his child or wife, not to mention that punishing family members would give an unfair advantage to sociopaths who don't care about their family members at all.
I still think the best solution is waterboarding of the player themselves. Remember, it's not technically torture. Andd it would probably never come up, as it's unlikely the arbiters would not notice the second offense, which as you will recall, was punishable merely by losing the match immediately and the awarding of the full purse to the opponent.
I find it amusing that a complaint about complaints has simply drawn more complaints.
You should file a complaint about it.
The 2013 candidate match 2nd and 3rd place was Kramnik and Svidler. They should play for 3rd place finish.
Then we will have 2 matches : Anand vs Carlsen and Kramnik vs Svidler.
There should be other categories such as :
- The most boring matches.
- The most exciting matches.
- Fair Play Player of the Year.
All the 2013 candidates should qualify for these categories.
I would like to see the next championship format resembles World Cup Soccer format with 32 players in 8 groups. Seeded players are 1-8.
The format should be changed or Chess is The most disappointing game of 2013.
Only way they will make a change is once we do not talk about these matches and they know that will not happen here.
The WC matches should be first to three wins in front wins the match. ie 3-0, 4-1, 5-2 etc
The other rule should be seven draws in a row stops the match at that point. The player who leads at that point wins the series. If wins are tied the champion keeps the title.
Kasparov and Karpov certainly have no problem accepting quick draws, Fischer on the other hand....
There hasn't been players with the fighting spirit of Fischer or Tal since....well, Fischer and Tal.
Oh please, even Kramnik-Leko was more exciting than this. As for no fighting players, matches with Topalov have always turned out many decisive games.
And decisive unplayed games too.
Yeah .... i am going to see Anand at the site of the match and end this crap. Taking my bat with me. I am going to wisper a few things to Anand. Bet the next game will not end in draw.

You must take this man along with you. Anand will play the Danish Gambit as often as possible from then on.
