MAKE DAILY CHESS DAILY CHESS

Play me 24 hours. 1 game. When 24 hours finish, game is over.

That's it. It will be a daily game. It won't be a 24 hour per move game. It won't be a 3 day per move game. It won't be a 7 day per move game.

It will be a daily game. You have 24 hours to complete the game. It will be a D-A-I-L-Y game.

Let me know if you are under 1500 (above 1000) and want to play this most logical time control. I encourage others above 1500 and under 1000 to do this too.

May the best daily man win!!!

Silent-Raven

I'd be up for that.

KingCranberry

Me too.

If you would like to play let me know and I will add you.

Sure but what would the time control be?

KingCranberry

One idea is to make it a 3 day per move, unrated game. This is only because this site doesn't allow for a 24 hour time control in the settings. I think it defaults to 120 minutes.

Another idea is you do that 120 minutes, unrated also. But then you would have to take the FEN at the last move and start another 120 minutes.

The only benefit I see in the second way is if someone wants to sleep or will be away from the computer for a considerable amount of time. It would be seen as an adjournment, whereas the first way is simply recording moves and it's understood by both parties in the beginning that the game itself is intended to end in 24 hours.

You would let Stockfish evaluation determine who wins, not time. When 23:59 passes, that's considered the end of the game.

You would also have to agree on the evaluation assignments. An evaluation of say 5 points might be enough to agree on who is the winner. If it is below 5 points it could be challenged by the losing side.

This is another gray area. Both sides would be looking at an engine to evaluate the position. The only thing they should be concerned with are evaluations the engine gives at only that position, not any calculated lines after. Being unrated, this does not go against TOS rules.

What should happen is say you find or confirm you are losing by 5 points. If you only see one continuation with a move as 5 points it might be a good idea to challenge and continue into the second day. Close the engine out, don't look at lines or use the engine again.

If you see several moves still showing 5 point disadvantage, you should agree that is essentially a loss. On the odd chance all variation/candidate moves are so obscure, perhaps you could challenge it. But I don't really see how this could be. Either it is an obvious win, the "winner" would have to blunder, or a move that secures the 5 points is a few moves down the line.

This is analogous to a 50 move rule. Both sides would have to agree on either treating it the same as a draw, or what they could do is agree on the evaluation number and that would be treated more like a time based event. The losing side did not maintain less than 5 point advantage in the game before 24 hours were reached.

There are a few other details that would have to be sorted, but these are the general guidelines. If you agree to this, I could write up something so others can see the conditions laid out.

I think 5 point evaluation after 24 hours = win, 3 point advantage or less = draw with option to continue next day if both sides agree. So, yea, if you are at a 3 point loss and you don't like the moves the engine shows for your next move, you can just call it a draw. Start a new game.

It's not going to be official, and since it isn't rated, it's not something people should be doing to win necessarily. The goal is to finish a game within a day. You can go back and look at your mistakes you made and the reasoning is fresh in your head. You don't have to worry about that mistake you made 3 days ago that you have to live with in an inferior position.

Well, let me know what you think and anything else that maybe should be added.

I like this idea, anyone else?

Hey, I'm really sorry but I've had stuff come up and I can't play as much anymore. Unfortunately that means I can't play what you were suggesting.

Sorry again.

Sounds like a fun idea. Who wants to do it?

Hmm but the problem is people have different time zones

Good point

Well, either that is a factor or it isn't. It's possible 2 people have 24 hours to do whatever they need. If you are working from home or working less hours, then that factor isn't that crucial.

You can make some moves, go to the store, etc...

Not everyone wakes up at the same time and goes to sleep at the same time. Here it is 12:46am in the USA, EST. I'll probably be up for another 3-4 hours.

No, you can go to hell.

Oof

Tonya Harding,

You are the last, ok maybe not the last. There was that Dahmer guy, and then OJ came along, but still you are down there near the bottom. You have no right to tell us ethics.

The hilarious thing about this thread is that nearly everyone who has commented on it up to this point has their account suspended.

Oh, no! You play your move in the middle of the night and I’m sleeping because you’re in a different time zone! I contact chess.com along with millions of others and they remove daily mode!
