yes, pace yourself. look at what each and every piece is doing on the board. then think and move.
Making Fast moves in Chess

I had the same problem when i first started club chess due to the fact that i got addicted to three minute blitz chess so slowing down can be difficult. Once you get out of opening theory if you have enough time just look at the clock and decide how long you will spend on this move until you get used to taking your time. Over time you should be able to automatically gauge time and use the right ammount. For a while don't worry about time trouble.

Play long games against Chessmaster (at least 45 minutes per side). Pace yourself to use as much of your time as possible. If you still have a lot of time on your clock at the end, then you are moving too fast.
I play chess a lot, mostly against the computer (Chessmaster XI) because I have a lack of people to play with at my level (about 900-950). When I am playing, I often find myself making moves that I think are good very, very fast. I think this is because I play so many chess games that I don't really try my best at any one.
Does anybody have any tips for just slowing down and spending some time thinking in between moves?
