massive glitch

I was playing a game and I noticed that if you push your pawn toward the eighth rank and the promotion screen shows up, you cannot cancel that move and play another one. Please fix this.

kohai

Is this in live chess or turn based ?

pantheid

live chess

kohai

Generally the only moves you can cancel out in live chess are premoves.

Was your promotion a premove?

glerpydoo

i think he means he didn't want to move the pawn in the first place, but cant get rid of teh promotion screen to make a different move.

Why should it let you change your mind after you've already pushed the pawn?  Just because you haven't yet made your choice on promotion doesn't mean you didn't commit to the move.

Surely if submit button not pressed pawn can be brought back ?

Gumbercules563

It is my understanding that once you touch a pice you are commited to moving it.  If there is no other legal move for your pawn then according to my understanding of the rules you have to promote your pawn.

Cystem_Phailure

He doesn't say if he's using the submit button.  It's a live game, so he might not be.  Otherwise, I agree, if the submit button hasn't been pressed, you should be able to change the move.

?????  Totally irrelevant.  We're talking about chess.com games, not OTB.

pantheid

In a tournament game I would be obliged to promote, but because this is online I wasn't too worried about it. The blame does lie with me for moving the pawn without thinking in the first place, and I did exaggerate the "massive glitch" part, but I still think this should be fixed.

You released the pawn on the eighth rank, now that move is fixed

You'll confuse the poor guy, with all your joking.

heinzie

(that move is fixed => that move has been recorded)

I wasnt aware yu could take back moves in live chess, but then I have only played 3 games and have never tried.

This is why i asked if it was turn based or live chess. The OP said live chess.

There is no submit button in live chess.

Thanks kohai,and sorry , haven't  played live yet .

pantheid

I'm not trying to take back the move, because I haven't made it yet. Have you ever clicked a pawn, paused, and then clicked on another piece and moved that one? Thats what I wanted to do, but can't because I couldn't get rid of the promotion screen.

Section 4.6

Paragraph c

"in the case of the promotion of a pawn, when the pawn has been removed from the chessboard and the player's hand has released the new piece after placing it on the promotion square. If the player has released from his hand the pawn that has reached the promotion square, the move is not yet made, but the player no longer has the right to play the pawn to another square."
