MASSIVE Losing Streak - Help needed!

Possibly, but not in 30 consecutive games, right?

There is no NM in existence who would just completely collapse like that.

I don't want to accuse anyone of cheating but it really seems strange to me.

Most people are saying that he just never played at that level and his true skill/rating has just finally been revealed, but I honestly don't believe that. He is an amazing player imo and it just doesn't make sense.

There’s no “30 consecutive games” here. In his last 50 games, he’s +22, -27, =1, and he seems to play people around roughly his own rating. The result may be a bit disappointing, and he’s lost 70 rating points in the past month, but there’s nothing whatsoever abnormal about it.

Cheating is not the explanation for scoring only 45%. Yes, we all know there are cheaters, but there have always been cheaters. I see no reason to believe that there are suddenly drastically more of them than there used to be.

My theory is still that there’s absolutely nothing out of the ordinary going on here.

Colby-Covington

You admitted yourself that you have neither experienced anything like that personally nor with any other titled player before.

Please, look at his earlier games. He was a destroyer, regularly dismantling 2400+ opponents with ease and look at him now. He is having serious trouble beating even 2000 rated players, losing 6 out of 8 games.

The discrepancy does not make sense at all.

Wtf is happening here? There is nobody you can talk to in situations like these.😕

Galaxy_Chess_God

he could be depressed but I doubt that he probably has something on his mind that is distracting him.

Bramblyspam

His opponents aren’t playing exceptionally well. He’s just blundering a lot. That’s not a sign of opponents cheating.

He’s missing a bunch of tactics that he ordinarily shouldn’t miss. The way to fix that is by working on tactics. It sounds like he’s also off his game psychologically, and that may be impacting his results. I have no quick cure for that, aside from perhaps taking a break.

You may be confusing me with someone else. I do have experience with dropping 100+ points off my peak rating, and I see nothing unusual about it. It’s frustrating and disappointing, but it’s well within the range of what’s normal.

Colby-Covington

You probably don't play a lot here, but what is your true rating in those areas?

Do you have a lot of experience playing Blitz, OTB or otherwise?

... what¡

Colby-Covington

Now he's slowly approaching <2000...😔

Would it be considered cheating if I logged into his account and played a couple games for him?

The good thing is that the NM title can never be revoked, no matter how far your rating dips but the psychological aspect is just crushing.

RichardBrune

Important is to be realistic in life. If you play against opponents of comparable equal points +- 100 in your true rating then you will win 33%, loose 33% and 33% draw. This is quite normal. If your result is better oder worse then you have another rating.... Keep winning and keep smiling when you loose.

Hey Colby , I would consider it cheating if you logged into his account and played a couple of games , I would be pissed off if I played a person rated 200 points higher than their rating which is what yours is , my opinion is he has to deal with what ever it is , and there is no chance it is solely from cheats if that is even a factor at all which I highly doubt , to me it looks fully like a psychological downward spiral , he is defeating himself with his emotions , he needs to stay focused and not blunder , and needs a break imo.

Hey in a couple of days I could be good for a game , its 2:30 am here again , I should be in bed long ago

Colby-Covington

I just spoke to him he says his connection is lagging bad, that's why he's been losing so many games.

He might start with a new account cause it will be easier to get back up to 2100 which is his true rating.

I have been experiencing a lot of lag too in Blitz so there is definitely something going on.

Bramblyspam

Well, lag can certainly make a difference in blitz. Starting a new account won't make any difference with that, though. Honestly, I don't think using a different account would make any difference at all in how quickly he gets his rating up to 2100. That's especially true in blitz, where you can very quickly play a whole bunch of games.

If this happened to me, I wouldn't even consider switching accounts. But hey, it's his account, he can do as he pleases. happy.png

Colby-Covington

He says that when you open a new account you get like 200 points for 1 win or something. If you start at 1800 that can get you up to 2100 very quickly, right?

Do you play any Blitz at all?

That's the Glicko System for you.

Colby-Covington

What time control do you want to play against him? He plays Blitz, exclusively.

Bramblyspam

Since you asked: I used to play a bunch of blitz in my younger days, but that was a few decades ago. I hardly play it at all now.

Colby-Covington

We're talking tournaments or online?

I'd like to play some 3 min with you if that's ok.

Thee_Ghostess_Lola

are u a beta-gamma cross ?....cuz u seem that way.

Colby-Covington

Well, I don't think you should be the one to bring up hierarchy, cause the Greek term for your rank does not even exist .🙄

Thee_Ghostess_Lola
