Despite tight matchmaking settings, chosen to ensure opponents are equally rated, I am consistently paired with folks who have peak elo ratings several hundred points higher than my peak. I've been watching for weeks and it has become increasingly frustrating to play folks who should never have been considered a fair match.
Peak ratings aren't not a true measure of strength. Peaks can easily be 100-200 higher than a player's average level of play.
My peak in US Chess play (OTB regular rated chess) is 1648, when I was playing a lot more tournaments and studying more. I don't generally feel any weaker than I was then but my current rating is at my floor of 1400, whick is what my more recent performances have reflected.
