matrix chess is part of the Parham attack, in fact you don't get matrix from traditional playing, for the traditional player usually doesn't learn to count the squares until he reached 1800 + and the matrix player learns this idea just within months of training. Now count squares isn't new in chess but a master secret which is being taught in high level, the master doesn't let the beginning player know this info until he reached 1800+ , unlike Parham tells his students within a year of this , which means the average player know the concept of squares but doesn't understand how put two together. But the idea is still before the traditional player get it. The 64 board is broken down in a matrix player mind , each square is something to matrix player, the traditional usually looks for position , matrix looks beyond just positional play, tactics, square count , and scholar's mate which what they call it is on the menu of attack.
