Were you playing the Cherry Blossom Classic?

A blitz game. It gets pretty ugly and takes a surprising turn. Any lessons to learn from it? https://www.chess.com/live/game/2828333940

Sorry I didn't get the chance to analyze this yet, but this is a game where I played an exchange sac for the first time in my life. I've been having trouble with the Sicilian defense against kids who only want to attack. So I taught myself some basics of the Pirc Defense the week before this tournament. Focused on principles such as challenging white's center, trying to open lines for black's strong bishop (which ended up being the theme behind the exchange sac on move 16.

Unfortunately, I did not follow it up correctly. I even missed an elementary tactic on move 20 (I think), when I could have just captured on f3, followed by e4. I was worried about Bd4 but that was unnecessary because I simply play the in-between move of Bxf3 and he has to capture back with the queen and then I simply capture the rook on f3.

So while I'm disappointed to have missed out on some elementary tactics, I was pleased with myself for having seen and played the exchange sac. Just need to do further tactics training. Any other tips you can give me are appreciated!

It was nice to see you, Jesse! Congrats on a fine performance at the Cherry Blossom Classic.

Some great games so far. Yes, I played in the Cherry Blossom, tied third place (wanted more! :-)) Might talk a little about a position from one of my games.

Sorry, in the comment above, I meant ".. after 20. ....Bxf3 21. Rxf3 e4 22. Bd4, I simply play the in-between move of 22. ...Bxd4 and he has to take back with the queen on d4, and I capture the rook on f3" - my board vision without a board in front of me isn't great.

Looking forward to the session today. The last one was great!

Just played OTB in Maryland.  I am black 1903 USCF v 1893.  Very proud of this game.  G90 5d

A same coloured bishop endgame where I was a pawn up.  Managed to convert but it felt a little dicey at times.
