its not why you are stuck at 500
you have set responses to some situations AND your intuitİon database is too small.
these 2 combined result in loses
"I only play ...", "I always do ... when ..."
These are the killers for low rated players, you need to try as many thing as possible and enlarge your pattern recognition.
funnily, these are also winning strategies for high rated players.. Only after accumulated enough number of games in their memories.

I only play 10 minute games
I resign if i lose my queen and my oponent still have one
I only sacrifice pieces if its to get a queen (and only when its too easy too see)
The only gambit i play is the intercontinental ballistic missile gambit
I barely study anything about chess
