Measuring the affect of playing while tired

If they play while tired they shoot themselves full of Red Bull...and that should enhance their abilities

i also remember an interview with joe walsh where he mentions that improvement at guitar is not necessarily a significant jump in the highest level one can achieve but, rather, a "bringing closer to one's best" his worst performances
this is where it becomes interesting in chess because the best players in the world are not always feeling "bright eyed and bushy tailed" every time they sit down to play- how do they react when tired? do they even know they are off?
when i am tired i will often confuse the diagonals and which color bishop is what at a given moment; my second tournament game ever (I was exhausted from the first) i thought my opponent first move was e4 but it was d4 and i was confused for awhile when the game wasnt working like an e4 opening
i think it is a very interesting topic- "how to play when tired," or "how to play when i'm off my game"
i'd also love to hear what experienced players do as well

That might explain why Naka is able to play so many blitz and bullet games at such a high level.

Yo dawg! Drank a can of red bull this morning...drove to work and sat down at my desk walking on air, then I noticed I never brought my car
Anyone know of any work done on this? Real work as in by psychologists? I've kind of figured out that after playing in the evenings following a night of < 4 hours of sleep that I play at about 100 points lower than whatever my rating was before the sleepless night. I have figured that by looking at games I know I've lost when playing while tired. But is there any real measure of this? Does it affect everyone? 8/ Better question is why didn't I have time to become a psychologist and study learning processes.
I really think it's about 100-150 points when playing with 4 or less hours of sleep for me. At least that's what I'm blaming my recent blunder festival on. I play better when fully alert and I blunder much less when I've got enough sleep. Everyone does. But what is the metric on that? Anyone have any ideas about their own games when they play while tired?
