Memorizing formations

Hello everyone! Is it useful to memorize complete formations, like the Botvinnic? Thanks

what good would that do you ?   you must know basic strategies for certain key positions.    The more positions you know how to play, the better you should be.

So, when a grandmaster or master or expert or ....... reaches certain "known" positions ( known to him or her), he/she knows how best to play them  RATHER  THAN taking a great deal of time thinking of what to do.

This is especially true for endings, ie; to know Lucena's position for Rook and pawn versus Rook  or  when your King has the opposition in a King and pawn ending.   Those are basic positions. why are they basic ?  because any decent player over 1400 should be familiar with them.

Improving your general chess visualisation skills might help. Not sure if this is what you are looking for, but I wrote about it recently:

Thank you ThisisChesstiny I've checked your link. Very interesting! My question, however, was about memorizing a complete opening position, that is to say, where to place each piece; for example, the Botvinnic formation for white or the Hedgehog for black .
