If chess is a thinking game and there are is no advantages, in regards to any physical aspects, then why are there leagues based solely on gender?
Curious to hear some thoughts on this.
To give women a chance to compete at higher levels, as women are underrepresented in this game, which lowers the chance of having strong women. Also, they say that men have a bigger QI variation (more men with very high or very low QIs), while women don't have these big variations and thus have less strong players compared to men.
Do you know if they ever play one another? I don't know much about anything other than the rules of the game. It would almost seem like the powers that be think that being a male or a female..... (who am I kidding, haha), that being male is an advantage in itself.
The most recent article on the site features a game between women's champion Hou Yifan and Fabiano Caruana, who has been a top 5 player in the world for some time. Hou Yifan won the game although this was surprising as Caruana is rated quite significantly higher.
