I don't think moderators are paid. I believe it's volunteer work with some perks.

Are these opinions or facts?
These are personal observations, ones that are holding up quite well since before Covid. And since I was privy to some of the ongoing staff/mod interactions that you are not, those observations are not purely from a free member's POV, as they might appear to you.
Did you know that Chess.com has (or at least had, no sightings in a long time) a Community Manager on staff? Have you ever seen her post here...?
I've spoken to their community manager, @anittadrink I believe, on discord several times, where she puts in most of her efforts
Yeah, right. Assertions aren't evidence. Never have been, never will be. Credit some of us with having better critical thinking skills than your average 4th grader.
Do better, I guess?
- Chess.com has grown from estimated $1M valuations 15 years ago to hundreds of millions now. Yet mods are still unpaid and staff only turns up here when there's some crisis. There's been a bolted-on upvote/downvote system added in that timeframe, and you can embed video links. As a retired development manager I can tell you that these modifications represent about a man-week of development time, at best...for 15 years. The forum infrastructure is circa 2005 technology and has never been upgraded.
- The Community Manager is only working on communication channels like Live, and Discord. The ones that are seen to have value in the future.
- Tyrm, hired to manage staff and mods, axed the most prolific mod the site has ever had (and Danny Rensch sent her an Email apology for the abrupt circumstances, but didn't do anything about it), then also summarily pulled a disappearing act...leaving Richard, who is a good guy, but who, as mentioned, only turns up for emergencies.
- Mods (for these forums, anyway) rarely get any staff interaction at all.
Ok, your turn...what do you know about any of it? Here's your chance to debunk my assertions.

My point exactly. Thanks for confirming.
I think this could be a good idea with a few modifications
1. instead of kids being online, lower the age to 16 or 17, because they are very likely mature enough to handle a moderation task. and they would be the age of just getting jobs, so they would have the ability to be able to judge if they would have time to moderate or not.
2. instead of full mod powers, why not make them have a sort of Trainee role with mod-like powers, just with some restrictions like for example not being able lock posts and or ban people, but instead being able to report and get near instant action, edit comments, and mute, but only being able to mute for one day at most.
I think I provided an 'affidavit' for his second claim, but requiring someone to source and post chess.com memos or something for a discussion on a forum seems a bit much.

I think I have to rewrite the post because why do people keep saying kids shouldn't have mod powers? I specifically emphasized that they would not have powers because of their kids! They would just have a louder voice in reporting.
but i agree with you
More assertions without proof. What you say doesn't matter. It is whether there is evidence to prove it. In your case that requires documents authorized as affidavits, not some random post on a website. Do you now understand the burden of proof? If you had news stories from reputable news organization or anything like that it is worth considering, but just posting random stuff on a forum is not proof, VERY far from it. Good try though. Anyone can post anything, full stop.
Some of the information provided in your previous post (assuming it is even true) could be construed as internal information about chess.com covered by an NDA. This is part of why I don't trust what you are saying. It all looks reasonable.. that does not mean it is.
Again, you are assuming none of us can critically think. Bad mistake if you ask me.
So, by omission in your reply, you do not know anything about any of it. Thanks.
There's no burden of proof for relating personal experiences. I did not post anything internally from the Community Defenders forums/notes, nor have I done so in the past. I could have, though. There's no NDA. Methinks you are watching too many Law and Order re-runs...
You've already proven you are less of a critical thinker (who would be able to figure out fairly easily whether what I have said is holding true or not) and more of an reactionary apologist who defends the status quo without scrutiny.
Breaking a friendship just because of different views isn’t very nice and mature, is it?
Dont confuse "friendship" with online acquaintances. It may be called a friends list, but how many people here do any of us really know?
I know 400 people of my friend list in real life and the rest I don't so I get it

they are volunteer who take some time out of their own lives to help out
this was answered in a different forum on here
This suggestion won't go anywhere. ...
Careful, continue down this road and the op would never be friends with you

Dude, you ok? This is just another forum on chess.com. You sound like you're at a bar trying to convince the barkeep that you should have won your last case from decades ago.
rj58,..... I can attest to DiogenesDue truthfullness. He's an honorable man who's just trying to help. He's also a U.S. Veteran, and he's been here 3 times as long as you. In fact he has contributed to many threads and I have never seen him try to send someone down the wrong path. Its not in his D.N.A.

Sorry but we'd need supporting documents attested in triplicate before we accept that. Do understand we're held to a higher standard of proof here at the chess.com forums.

Thanks RJC, I would say the same about you.
Veteran's Day tomorrow
...I usually forward you this, but this year it is was buried under various partisan politics website redesigns and I only found it today:
