I guess I am making this suggestion to those who have read about morphic resonance and biologist Sheldrake. Although controversal, I find it very interesting. So, here we go. Whenever, the modern game of chess was standardised, arbitary powers were alloted to each piece, as we all know. And billions of games have been played by at least as many human minds respecting the given powers of each piece. So my suggestion is that there should be morphic resonance fields, consolidating those powers attributed to each chess piece, after so many human minds have agreed and respected them. The fields might be ephemeral, but who really knows after so many minds may have contributed to their existence. That we players sometimes mentally regard chessmen as representing people, was evidenced by one famous personage who made the social comment that "after the game, the king and the pawns go into the same box." When we think of a bishop, we also mentally assign to it the range of the diagonals on the board. And we mentally ascribe the appropriate range alloted for every piece. I believe that if morphic resonance is real, then the huge number of minds that enjoyed the game over history, have created fields associated with the pieces. Of course, morphic resonance fields would be created, and shared, by all activities human minds deal with. Many who read this will discard Sheldrake's idea as rubbish. But science has yet to explain where, or how, thought arises. And morphic resonance suggests that they arise from magnetic fields, laid down by the minds of our ancestors, and all living things. Great ideas come out of the blue and sometimes change the course of history. And just maybe, when you are struggling with a game, morphic resonance will inspire you with the right move, that was played repeatedly by great players of the past. Just suggesting....
