A few years ago batgirl listed the books owned by Morphy. Staunton's books were among the titles. If he had studied Staunton's books then could this have influenced his obsessive willingness to win the unofficial title from the man who won it from France? Maybe he found flaws in the works. There was something personal at stake for his reason to obsess over Howard Staunton who was already a lesser player than many of his other opponents. I hate finger typing on an iPad. It's spelling corrections are horrible.
