Kid...you have just started to play the game. So you aren't qualified enough to pass a comment on a rule that has been in existence for 100s of years.

Could you give us any logic to support your statement ?

MichaelDWard

It's a stupid rule. I don't mind that you can wind up in a draw in a clearly won position. You just need to be careful, but conceptually it makes no sense, and it creates more situations where a forced win is impossible even though you are up material.

Mate..just admit that you are incompetent enough to comprehend the logic behind it. No need to call it stupid. There are grandmasters and intellectuals playing the game with a considerable amount of iq higher than yours. They aren't stupid to not raise an objection to any weird rule if needed. If at all the rule didn't make any sense there would have been objections raised. But they weren't . Why ? Because there is reason behind it.....which you will take time to understand.

If there's no stalemate than what would you do in this position (as white)

Pulpofeira

Without it, many endgames would be trivial.

AussieMatey

In that position, Black wants White to take his Queen, but we're not falling for it  -  1.Kg7 mate!

Aron_08

Sorry Kg7?

Pulpofeira

zlhflans

it comes in handy

Stalemate is so stupid!
hmchessuser

That's why you need to be careful not to make careless plays at the end of a game. If your opponent isn't in check you don't win even if they can't move.

NikkiLikeChikki
Yep. Case in point.
BTponcik

when ı was new to chess ı had 2 queens but ı couldnt checkmate. it was so embarrasing

Practice your endgames. Repeatedly. It's the "money-maker" in chess.

gingerninja2003

If you want to change the rules of a game then play draughts or something.

TBH, I'm not clear on when and why stalemate happens. Seems like there are no more moves that would result in a check? Still learning here. I usually don't get to a stale mate anymore because my strategy is improving. Anyway, I can relate as there are rules in Scrabble that make me angry.

Hedgehog1963

Stalemate occurs when a player's king is not in check and they cannot make a legal move when it is their turn.  Usually the king is surrounded by squares attacked by opposing pieces and/or by pieces of his own or those of the opponent which are protected.
