Move notation during OTB tournament

Is it an absolute requirement that a non-handicapped player write down ACCURATE move notation during an OTB tournament?

I ask because I am interested in participating in tournaments to get real OTB experience, but I have no desire to write down the moves; I just want to play chess for fun without the drudgery of move notation. Would there be any consequences if I would fake it by writing gibberish on my scoresheet?

Probably not unless your opponent overstepped the time control or you wanted to claim a draw by repetition of position.

Or if you almost beat someone higher rated and wanted to be able to go over the game afterwards.

FIDE Laws of Chess:

"8.1.1
In the course of play each player is required to record his own moves and those of his opponent in the correct manner, move after move, as clearly and legibly as possible, in the algebraic notation (Appendix C), on the ‘scoresheet’ prescribed for the competition."
