In Muay Thai there are six groups of Defence I tried to create some analogy with chess.
1.Blocking – Defender blocks to stop an attack in its path so preventing it reaching its target.
2.Redirection – defender's soft parries to change the direction of a strike so that it misses the target
3.Avoidance – moving a piece part out of the way or range of a strike so the defender remains in range for a counter-strike.
4.Evasion – moving the piece out of the way or range of a strike so the defender has to move close again to counter-attack,
5.Disruption – Pre-empting an attack
6.Anticipation – Defender catching a strike
( may be you could come up with some examples :))
I think if a chess player has these six tactics in mind while defending a postion or piece it would do him a world of good.
Thanks Muay Thai for your wisdom.
Ifyou could add some examples for these six groups of defence it would be helpfull.
