Back in the early 1980s I'd been teaching a friend's son how to play chess. He was coming along nicely so Mum and Dad bought him a chess computer. The programs weren't very strong in those days, but neither was he, so it was good enough to stretch him.
Then they wanted me to play the thing.
I don't enjoy playing computers (they don't bleed, so what's the point?) but when they invited my wife and myself for dinner we went. And, after dinner out came this pint-sized, modern reconstruction of the Turk.
I didn't have to work too hard to win and that's when the fun began because it had a recorded, plaintive voice that kept repeating, "I lose ... I lose ... I ..."
I wouldn't let them turn it off.
Now that's the kind of sound I could live with on chess.com.
I think that chess.com should add more sound when you play chess. [option]
