My chess life
Welcome to the grind! Improving at chess is a marathon, not a sprint, but you can definitely make fast progress if you focus on the right things.
If I were in your shoes, I’d focus on these three pillars:
-
Tactics, Tactics, Tactics: Do the Puzzles here on Chess.com every single day. It’s the best way to train your 'pattern recognition.' At our level, most games are decided by someone hanging a piece or missing a simple fork.
-
A Solid Repertoire: Don't try to learn everything. Pick one opening for White (like the Italian or the London) and one for Black against e4 and d4. Learn the first 5-7 moves and, more importantly, the ideas behind them.
-
Analyze your losses: After a game, don't just start a new one. Look at the game review to see where you blundered. It’s painful but it’s where the real growth happens!
It’s a tough journey (I’m currently pushing for 1500 myself), but it's incredibly rewarding when things start to click. Good luck, you've got this!
