I agree 11. f5? isnt a good move. But 12. Bd3!? how is that a good move? better was taking the pawn en paissant. after 12. exd6. 12. Nxd6. 13. Bxg6 you've won a pawn and black's kingside pawns are gone leaving his king vulnerable.

It was in your best interest to take the pawn. It comes with no drawbacks (you still have great control of the center, for example, e4), it weakens his king, your light bishop is open, you may even be able to open your other bishop, which was earlier very blocked, with f5, and, even as your initiative is just starting, you already have a tangible asset (the pawn). I think that winning the pawn also improves your position at the same time.
After 12 Be3, once again, you have a great position, but it's not like black doesn't have defensive resources. The fact that the position is closed at least gives him some time to shore up his position, e.g., ...Ne7, and ...Qe8. I like your h4-h5 plan, but I'm wondering if black could try 13...h5. That keeps the position closed, but of course black still has big problems, since e6 is a permanent weakness. In that case you'd probably want to open up play with c4 at some point, although black is alive for now.
