Try not to lose

Take more time than you think on your moves.

Don't be intimidated by ANYone.

Get up and take a break at least once during the game.

Try not to be super serious and have some fun.

Have plenty of rest. Be selective with what you eat and drink. If you are lactose-intolerant, don't drink milk. Go to the tournament venue early. Familiarize yourself with the place. Meet and socialize with the people there. Wear something comfortable. Don't forget to pray.

Good luck.

Praying helps for chess? No wonder I stink. Should I start a praying regimen, so I can reach 2000? Certain prayers, perhaps?

Is that bit of advice strictly for chess tournaments?

Well, it came from a personal experience (or should I say "personal tragedy"). Frown

I'm guessing it is a rapid play, when you don't have to score games. However I'd strongly recommend scoring, at least for the first 30 moves or so, so that you can review your opening ideas and planning afterwards. It's good discipline. Have fun!
