My new chess video website

I've been wanting to do this for a while, and have been encouraged by many of my friends here at chess.com to make video tutorials.  Before going to my site understand that I'm not a Master or Grand Master and hold no public titles, but I do love teaching, and feel like I am able to communicate important chess principles successfully.

My videos of course will be for players under 2000.  I hope you enjoy them.

I would also like to ask 5 or so men or women with ratings over 2000 (turn-based) to think about becoming contributors to this website.  If you would like to be considered as a contributor, please produce a chess video, post it on youtube, and send me the link.  If I find your style, communication skills, and production are complementary to my site I will give you a log in.

Keep this thread alive so I can find some good contributors

Anyone want to contribute their chess knowledge or am I the only one?

If you would like to make some of your very own presentations and send them to me via email this is all you need to get started.

All you need is a mic.  and a chess program (winboard/fritz ect).

Prepare your game with all variations you would like to cover before hand.

Then simply open Windows Media Encoder.  (This program will be stock on any windows XP system.) Also it is free to download if you don't have it. Just google "Windows Media Encoder"

When you have windows media encoder just open it and select capture screen.

When you set up the screen area you would like it to capture, just hit start and begin your presentation.

When you are finished.  Make sure to save the file and then you are done.

I'm actually surprised no one has responded to be a contributing author

I wouldn't mind being a contributing author.  But,

A) at the moment I am not above 2000

B) I am not a technologically proficient person

and lastly

C) I am feeling rather lazy at the moment

Though, I will definitely check out your site

lol.  Well those are all good reasons.

2000 wasn't a hard set number.  I just want to make sure people doing the teaching are at a certain understanding in order to teach effectively.

i dunno who posted this, but

1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 d6 is the Philidor’s defence…not Petroff, which is 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nf6
With 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 Bc4 d6, black transposes a line in the Philidor’s defence(1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 d6 3.Bc4 Nf6)which is really not too bad for black. After an eventual …Nf6 and Bg5, Be7 is not bad at all for black since it unpins the poor knight…

or at least that's what i think..frel free to correct me.

No you are completly correct.  I made that video over 2 years ago for chessvideos.tv ...I remember making the error.

Just a mistake.  Happens.  Hopefully you got something from it either way.

I think I may give it a go.. No doubt I'll have problems getting all the software set up..

Question: what exactly does your site offer that chessvideos.tv other then obviously, exclusive videos?  I can't think of a reason why a strong chessplayer would prefer to post on your site instead of chessvideos.tv, since currently (your site is young) it's more popular and is more intuitive to navigate.

I don't think it's more intuitive (number 1) and I do enjoy that site, but I find many of the video's dont' connect with the audience.  Also mine does not require someone to join in order to watch videos.

But more than that I wanted to have a site which gave my perspective because many people ask me by email (when I made them for chessvideos.tv) to make more.

Finally I am a webdesigner and have owned this domain for 4 years initally for a site like chess.com (sorta a myspace and chess combined)....Obviously Chess.com got to the table before me, so I wanted to put the domain toward some kind of use.

"many of the video's dont' connect with the audience."

"But more than that I wanted to have a site which gave my perspective"

Vague much?

Avatar of immortalgamer

Well I didn't feel the need to write a book for your pleasure.  I mean they are your standard "chess" tutorials.  Monotone...with endless variations....that don't do a good job of teaching concepts.  Not all of them, just enough for me to want to have my own site.  Which seems to be bothering you quite more than it should.

Avatar of immortalgamer

Where did you get this information?  This is completly false :P

Avatar of pskogli

Your site looks fine, but you need more clips, have you been on ICC? They have many really good clips, the gambit guide is worth wathcing :)

Good luck with your chess site, keep those clips coming!!
