My opponent played badly and then suddenly plays 40 best moves in a row....

What does it mean if a player plays badly in the opening and makes a blunder, then suddenly plays 40 best moves in a row?

I have to be honest, I am not enjoying playing on here very much any more. So many opponents I face seem to be doing "odd" things and playing in a very accurate way.

I am round about the 1800 level (used to be 2000 a few weeks ago) but recently the kinds of moves I am facing are just a joke.  I cant really applaud my "opponent" and say "well done".

There is no sense that there is a human at the other end. I almost never get messages any more, even annoying messages.

This isn't fun

So, before I posted this message on the forum I had a heap of opponents playing 90% accuracy or better.

And weirdly, after I posted this message on the forum, I instantly had seven weak (or fairly weak) opponents in a row. They all had accuracy of 70% or less, but were supposedly the same rating as the genuises I played earlier today. Not only that, two them said "good game" and 2 others sent me friend requests. Is this just a weird coincidence or what?

And here is the analysis from my last game, which is also extremely weird. The player who lost has the higher estimated rating for the game. Never ever seen that before. Also , 73% accuracy never corresponds to an estimated rating of 2000.

Something strange going on here....

For example? And how long has your account / opponents been kind of strange?

I would say for a match

Estimated ratings use the ratings of the players in conjunction with the accuracy to generate game performance rating. Thru should be taken with a grain of salt.

Sure. But it's hard to believe the losing player with lower accuracy could have the higher estimated rating . Makes no sense at all

You didn't score so well because missed the opportunities to take advantage of mistakes and blunders, but these misses don't turn the match around.

You had a won game but you dumped your knight instead of trading bishops.

Sure, there were a few games where I messed up, but it's weird the number of computer accurate players I face these days. Just had another one. 90% accurate and incredibly fast as well . And then there are other times when I'll suddenly get woeful players who don't know the openings- supposedly at the same rating

The site's accuracy scores are not direct engine correlation.

I wont name any names, and if this thread is cancelled then so be it, but chess.com has refunded me ratings points twice in the last week because of cheating opponents.

I have a feeling they do it when a player clearly cheats after the book moves are finshed.

In my opinion, there are also a great number of players cheating by using book explorers (i.e. grandmaster openings) . In fact, it is even ALLOWED on daily chess, which is one of the reasons I quit that.

If you don't like people using books, then maybe 960 daily is a better option?

Well I learned a lot of book moves and openings myself. It is one of the keys to becoming good at chess. Just a bit annoying when you play a lower ranked opponent and he just happens to know the best possible moves , while using about 10 seconds thinking time for each move.

960, yeah, i guess it has its benefits but I could never get into it. Maybe for Daily it might be an option, thanks for the tip!

@ChrisZifo I fully agree with you. I too am totally hacked off with weird play.

I just had an opponent today (I am not sure if it was a real human) who gifted me a free knight on the 3rd move. He was supposedly 1800+.

Four days ago I was playing 1600-1700 players who were putting performances like Magnus Carlsen. I just laughed and hit the resign button. I could tell.

I have a friend on here who says he always opens the chat at the start to see who is there

and yeah, if a player plays great you can ask them and maybe they will say they are just rising up the ranks. Or if a player plays great and takes loads of time, then maybe they just gave it their all.]

But when there is a lower ranked player just blasting out amazing openings, or amazing mid games at a high speed I just shake my head. I have played 10,000+ games on here and I can tell

Martin, whatever happened to the "cheating, potential cheating and cheat detection discussions are not for the general forums" principle? Is there any reason that this topic is not locked? And it's dumb enough to be locked for that reason only.

@ChrisZifo I now expect players who make lots of positional mistakes in the opening and middle game to suddenly find engine moves until I break
