My problem with chess coaches

Your experience is not unique. My suggestion is have your teacher(s) teach you an opening against 1.e4 & 1.d4. They should be able to show you several choices against each & let you pick which one feels right for you. Then they should teach you king and pawn & king pawn & rook endgames. Then they should show you famous games by Paul Morphy and other famous games in each of your chosen openings with emphasis on the middle games. They should also introduce you to various mating patterns & common tactical combinations. After all this you should play games online with others & they should review your games with you. If do all this you will get much stronger.
