MY RATING DROPPED by 12 points for no reason

Today I cancelled my game before move 1 (didn't resign) and my rating dropped by -12.

Can someone f**king explain this to me? I'm sorry for this type of language but I'm totally done with this website and it's innability to communicate, solve issue or just give a f..

I made countless posts about major technical issues on this website and deleted them after months because no one responded or fixed the issue. I swear this is the last time I make a post before canceling my subscription unless someone from the Chess.com team is actually willing to read forums and relay issues to developers.

I am sad, dissapointed and contemplating leaving this website after several years of playing here

Cuz no one actually cares about the players here. I made posts on reddit with 10s of K views about issues, no one from Chess.com responded, been active in forums, no one from Chess.com bothered to even see it. I loved this site for years but for the love of god PLEASE communicate with players instead of just doing funny sh*t on youtube, because while you're trying to market to non-chess people your community is dying in the meantime.

For example playing on Safari browser is impossible for me due to programming issue in the websites layout. I simply cannot see both clocks without scrolling up and down. It's been like this for about 7-8 months so I'll be very surprised if anybody notices before christmas :/

I'm so done and there are a lot of people out there sharing my frustration. it's a shame you have forums and channels where people can give you direct feedback and you are unable to notice major bugs for 3 quarters of a year because you don't read them.

If you begin a game, then it is usually best to play it out; you are allowed to auto-abort some games if early enough with no penalty, but if you abandon too many games this way in a short time-span, then I believe those begin to take away rating points as if you had lost.

For extra information on how game abandonment works, here is a related hyperlink: https://support.chess.com/article/338-how-does-game-abandonment-work

Okay, and what am I supposed to do when Chess.com pairs me with 5-6 low rated people in a row? Which happens in certain time controls. You're basically telling me that according to Chess.com rules I have a choice between A) risk losing -20 elo to 600 sandbagger/cheater B) grinding for 20 mins to win 0+ points C) losing points anyway because you're punished for aborting. So you're puting me in a situation where I can basically never gain anything. That's pretty unfair if you ask me. Why doesn't Chess com prevent this situation by only taking away elo If the games are being aborted against SAME LEVEL opponents?

So my questions are, as an admin are there things you can communicate to the developers, or are you here just to respond to people. Is there a way I can actually pitch bug fixes to Chess.com? I've been trying for a very long time..

What about the next issue? Is there any update on the Safari browser bug?

I've been playing here for a long time and have a lot of issues in mind that need to be communicated to people that deal with them, cuz I would like to use this site further..

You play and risk losing the rating; you won't always be paired again people -20 rating to you. If you have several players like this in a row, then it is probably mathmatical compensating for you not playing lower rated players roughly half the time and aborting those games just makes it likely that you'll get a similarly lower rated player next time. If you complete that game (win, loss or draw), then you'll probably be more likely to get someone close to your rating or higher rated next time.

As for cheating, most chess players are honest and even if you do run into someone violating fair play, chess.com usually refunds you those points when that person is caught anyway, so really it is more like you get a freeroll against these players!

Or you know, you can adjust the ratings of players that you play? (Yes you can do that it’s in live chess settings)

The way to reach the developers with a technical bug is to post a bug report. (It's on the Help button menu for the website.)

The problem is that the things that upset you aren't bugs. You just disagree with the policies of Chess.com. On the rating penalty for aborts-- they decided through lengthy experience after watching hundreds of thousands of games get aborted to impose a rating penalty on those people who insisted on using the abort button as a way of getting white or otherwise choosing their opponents. I remember those days. You would sometimes have to start a game 5 times before someone stuck around to play. The penalties are effective on people who care about their ratings.

People who don't abort often can still abort a game before the moves start if something unforeseen arises. It's just the people who abort often who lose the privilege of aborting.

You claim to have a lot of people sharing your frustration. Even if you find a few dozen peoplle who agree with you on Reddit, you have to realize that Chess.com is running a site for more than 20 million active users.

They are willing to discuss their polcies. Things like the "State of Chess.com" broadcast give users the chance to ask questions like the ones you raise. Their answers show that there is a lot of thought behind their policies and the policies do change from time to time.

Yes this is a policy, but I mentioned technical bugs too in the past with no answer. I haven't seen any bug report page, but I'll look for it, thanks. I mean sometimes I do play against those ratings and if they beat me, it's very hard to prove anything. (unless they cheat every move) They just play 75% accuracy and meanwhile I usually have above that score, it's enough to beat me in like 3/10 games. They could literally cheat in 15% games checking just few moves per game.

But regardless of cheating or not.. In OTB tournament I'll gladly play against anybody. But online in the age of cheating I think it's unfair to expect everyone to play-out the games against low rated opponents, you should always have the ability to skip until you find someone your level.

You can set the rating range to -25 and +25 and you will always be paired against players of pretty much similiar rating... Very easy to do this in the settings.
