Why do they always screw up these events? Why can't we just watch Nakamura vs. Carlsen without Fischer Random? Here is a chance to see them go toe to toe, regular chess.
Because we've seen them go toe-to-toe, regular chess, 1,000,000 times and Magnus has beaten Nakamura 999,999 of those times.
So, who do you think will win the 960 match between these two? 960 seems to be Carlsen's weakness and a strength for Naka. I think it is interesting. Carlsen seems to be such a cautious calculated player, and it seems to force his opponents to play very conservatively. It has been said that his memory (probably photographic) is one of the greatest reasons for his powerful play. He is able to memorize positions and motifs better than anyone. Is the randomness of 960, and the lack of theory what will give Naka the edge to take him down? Or will Carlsen rise to dominate Fischer Random as well? I think that until we see a genius like Fischer or Tal, that dominates wild and dangerous positions, we wont see anyone to unseat Carlsen from the world's top spot. Hopefully we don't have to wait for Mikhail Osipov to see this.
