What country is named the King's Indian?
I can think of the English, French, Latvian, Polish openings that are named after countries, but idon't know of any country called King's Indian.

That actually is an interesting question.
But I don't think they are actually named for the countries. Because if the were, the French would involve surrendering and running the other direction.

Don't you think India is a country? Also that is not my point. My question is broader? is there a history and does any1 know it.
The Indian openings I believe are named such because it was a habit of a lot of players there to fianchetto the bishops.
I guess most others e.g. English are because a number of strong players from those countries used them.
The Scotch is because of a correspondence game with a Scottish team (although ironically they were playing black).
EDIT: Actually the French is named for the same reason as the Scotch, although obviously a French team (before someone makes a comment).
Try Wikipedia.
The Yugoslav attack is an Opening._. Named after the extensive contributions from the people from Yugoslavia...
Same with the Sicilian, it was played first in Sicily(Which is an Italian Island) and there are many other openings such as the Italian game, the Austrian attack in the Pirc, the Chinese Dragon, the Danish Gambit, The Dutch defense, The Czech Benoni, the Scotch, the Hungarian Opening, the Russian(Petrov), the Scandinavian, etc...
Thanks. I found this link :)

EXCELLENT LINK THANK YOU !
I am new to chess. I see a lot of countries name in the name of opening like french, kings indian etc. Is there any history behind naming the opening after certain countries. My only guess is players from different part of the world started playing openings in different ways earlier (like 100-150 years before) and it has been named after their countries. Is it correct. Is there anything more than that?
Please excuse me if I have posted a dumb question.
