Naming memorial chess events

An interesting dilemma came to my attention. I am looking at the games of the Karpov International tournament, and was wondering why they call it international and not memorial.

I understand when someone dies, you have a memorial and we have recently honored a player who died young, Gashimov. In that case, it makes sense to wait until the person dies. However, in the case of Karpov who hasn't competed in top tournaments in basically over 10 years, wouldn't it make more sense to have a memorial while he is still alive? Why wait to give all this appreciation towards the man when he is 6 feet under?

So, the dilemma is then, if dying is the reason to not call it a memorial what is Kasparov going to do? I doubt he wants Russia to host his memorial tournament. Fischer got Iceland, but has Kasparov really chosen the US yet or is there another place to hold the memorial?

Maybe Sinquefield has financed it so Kasparov's memorial will be in St. Louis, but that is very much like any American sport where they import foreigners. I would want to see someone else who is really from the US to have a memorial next.

What do you guys think? Where should Kasparov's memorial be?
