Sounds like a "Mentalist, Psyche, or Sherlock Holmes type genius sleuth show. The movie "sleuth" had a lot of games and dialogue but I don't remember chess but I cant eliminate it. "Blade Runner" had a similar scene when the engineer knew something was amiss by the chess move in the elevator. I can also eliminate "Columbo" since he claimed he didn't know how to play! Can you narrow the decade?
I am pretty sure that neither Sleuth nor Blade Runner is the movie that is sought. By the way, the Blade Runner chess scene appears to have been inspired by the Immortal Game.
The main character received a letter or telegram from someone with a chess move (correspondence chess). He then proceeds to break down his opponents personality based on the decision of the move he choose. This was the only chess reference in the film.
I know this isn't a lot to go off of but it's all I can remember. A mention of any movie with correspondence chess would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
