Its impossible

If you can manage to get his queen it's usually all over for him.

Don't try to match him for speed. Take as long as you need to avoid blundering.

I've beaten him maybe 3 out of ten. String a few best moves together and like most these bots, he will blunder

PsychoPanda13

Just trade off the queen's with Nelson bro... he ain't nothing without those aggressive attacking intimidation tactics

Anything is possible if you believe in yourself!!

Contrary to what others have been saying here, I'd suggest keeping the queens on the board and just trying to follow the opening principles, while checking carefully on every move if your opponent is threatening anything and if you can capture anything for free. Usually, if you do that, you'll already get a winning position straight out of the opening since Nelson will move his queen around aimlessly instead of developing, leaving his king in jeopardy.

If you trade off his queens, it's harder to come up with a systematic approach to beat him; at that point, you'll probably have to rely on skill alone.

Oh hey! I commented on one of your YouTube videos yesterday lol. Didn't expect to randomly bump across you on forums.

Nelson (1300) is not that hard.

1.d4 d5 2.c4 c6 3.Nc3 Nf6 4.Nf3 e6 5.Bg5  Now 5...Nbd7 is best, when after 6.cxd5 exd5 7.e3 Be7 8.Bd3 0-0 9.0-0 Re8 10.Re1 a6 11.a4 b5 12.axb5 axb5 13.b4 Bb7 14.Bb2 c5 15.bxc5 Bxc5 16.Na4 Qc7 17.Qc2 Bd6 18.Nc3 b4 19.Nd1 Qa5+ 20.Qd2 Qxd2+ 21.Kxd2 Bxa3 22.Nxb4 Bb2 23.Ra8+ Kf7 24.Rxa7 Bxc3 25.Rc7 Bd4 26.Rc8 Bxe3 27.fxe3 Bc6 28.Rxc6 Ke6 29.Rc7 Kd6 30.Rb7 Kc6 31.e4 Kb6 32.Rf7 g6 33.h4 Kc6 34.Rf6+ Kd7 35.Rxf8 Kd6 36.Rf7 Kd5 37.Rd7+ Ke4 38.Rxd5 Kf3 39. Rd7 Ke2 40.Rxg7 Kf1 41.Rh7 Kg2 42.Rg7 Kh3 43.Rg8 Kh4 44.Rf8 Kh5 45.Rf7 Kh6 46.Rf6 Kh5 47.Rf7 Kh4 48.Rf8 Kh5 49.Rf7 Kh6 50.Rh7 1-0.

If, on the other hand, Nelson instead chooses 5...h6, then after 6.Bh4 dxc4 7.a4 Bf5 8.e3 e5 9.Bg3 exd4 10.exd4 c5 11.dxc5 Bxc5 12.0-0 0-0 13.Re1 Qa5+ 14.Nd2 Qd8 15.Bf4 Qf6 16.Bd6 Qg6 17.Bxc5 Qxc2 18.Bd6 Qd1+ 19.Re2 Qxd6 20.Nxd6 b5 21.axb5 axb5 22.Nxb5 Qc1+ 23.Kh1 Qc4 24.Qd3 Qxd3 25.Rxd3 Ne4 26.Nd6 Kf8 27.Rd7 Nd2 28.Rxb7 Nf3+ 29.gxf3 Qxf3 30.Rb8+ Kf7 31.Rb7+ Kf8 32.Rb8+ Kf7 33.Rb7#

Sheesh!!!!! I can't even give advice on how to beat him!!!!!! At first I tried to play clever while keeping my pieces but eventually I had to open him up and sacrifice to do it???

I did struggle with him when I first started grinding through the bots, but at this point I'm pretty consistently beating up to Sven bot, still losing more than half my games to Antonio bot.

The trick with beating Nelson is to avoid the queen+bishop and sometimes just queen attack he goes for almost every game. Use a knight to defend the center pawn, save the scholar's mate by pushing the g pawn, and then again by activating the other knight to f3/f6 after he brings the queen back for another angle. After that develop normally watching for him trying to sneak his knights in as he often tries next. From there if you got a good position so far you will just bulldoze him with favourable trades and constant blundering as the AI falls apart and panics.

This wasn't a perfect game against him by any means and I'm more used to >85% accuracy but I found the position very fun and I liked the finish.

Good luck OP happy

when you play with white, play d4 so he can't do any shenanigans with his queen

I have some advice to offer with the disclaimer that I am pretty bad myself, I almost exclusively play bots and beat up to 1500 but rarely play against players other than friends.

I've heard that one of the opening principles to follow is not to activate the queen so early, as you can see it buys the opponent a lot of easy free development when you endanger her with no center control or pawn setup right off the bat. He completely prevented you from taking center control through the game by keeping the pressure on your weak minor pieces & queen. You also missed free material at times (such as 20. exd4) and failed to stop some simple threats. I have an easier time beating Nelson if I let him bring his queen to me, and simply do to him what he did to you in this example. Look at the example game I posted in other comment to see how to crush him - he makes many mistakes.

He is a tricky bot, good try. Keep at it. You need to activate all of your pieces, look for threats or favourable trades/free material, and try not to play a dubious opening, the cheesy ones only work on lower rated bots despite bots not being great at understanding openings.

It works, but the idea of his opening is to teach beginners to properly refute the scholar's mate. It is more fun to rather allow him to play it and then punish him brutally for underestimating you! happy.png

true

That bot is quite easy if you follow normal development that chases his queen at the same time. He can lose 3-4 tempi in the first 8 moves.

Why Impossible?

Nelson is the wall for beginner...... You are a noob if you can't beat him imao

ladraine

pretty good bot, not too hard to beat aswell

Nelson sucks. If you can, take his queen or queen trade. He is missing so many endgames and over all tactics
