Respond with a solid Slav or KID and black fares as well as they would in a Sicilian or Ruy Lopez
Never accept the queen's gambit?
There is nothing wrong with the queen's gambit accepted. You need to be able to play the IQP (Isolated queen pawn) positions, but they can arise from many different openings.
As long as you don't try to keep the extra pawn nothing wrong can happen.
And computers are bad at openings, don't trust them in evaluating an opening position, especially not on move 2 which makes no sense.
It really is the cheapest opening ever. If you 1100-1500 in bullet or blitz and someone plays 1.) d4 2.) c4, DO NOT take the pawn. These players have memorized the entire main line and you will lose very fast if you are not careful. The only way around this is to play something offbeat such as g3 before taking the pawn so they cannot rely on memorized lines. If they really understand the gambit, then they will still be fine, but for the most part people at this level play good opening then blunder everything by the middle game.
Furthermore, the stockfish engine gives and evaluation of 0.20 before taking the c pawn, but after taking it changes to 0.40 (depth 17). It is practically and theoretically worse for black if you accept the queens gambit.
