New 2CBH format [ for ChessBase ]

The modification date of 2CBH files changes even without modification and even by simply selecting the base.
Very annoying for unnecessary backups especially large databases.

[Edit] Update #9 fixes this issue.

It took me a while to figure out that you are talking about a new data format for Chessbase files, included in the release of Chessbase 17.

Yes
The first times, CBH files had the same problem.
Chessbase had since corrected.

A more serious problem.
If you convert Mega Database 2023 to 2CBH format, Internal links are broken.

Specifically, they continue to point to the old base that has disappeared.
Unless you have kept it but updates will not be done automatically in the two.

They're fixing the problems with 2CBH. I didn't know about internal links being broken, though. That's a serious problem. In a last-ditch effort, you could always edit the links yourself. I forget the key combination that opens up the edit window, but if you look through the Customize menu, you should find it.

Thanks.
In fact, not really a problem of format.
But the name of the database changes and therefore, the links in the texts are no longer valid.

And since "Game Database" is the first link, I didn't look any further.
It seems the only one. In particular the links to the tournaments remain valid.

The problem is therefore limited.

For the dates problem I am using a temporary workaround.
For large databases, which do not change often, I place the read-only attribute on the .2cba, .2cbg, .2cbh files
And remove them if I intend to modify the base.

Be careful not to try to modify read-only databases.
The display is going crazy.
Don't panic, just quit CB and start it again.

Oh! I think I know what the problem is. When you convert it changes the name of the db to the same thing with " (2cbh)" appended to it. Just rename them back in both the properties window and the Rename Files dialog. That might be all you need. If you only rename in Properties, then it changes how the icon reads but doesn't change the filenames. You may already know all this, but it's just in case.

Good try but it's the file extension that changes from cbh to 2cbh.
You cannot change it in the rename box. You can only change name, before dot.

And if you change it back to cbh with explorer, CB look for cbg files etc...

Update #9 fixes the issue of modification date.
Thanks ChessBase!
