New account for 4-PC & other Variants, why?

I've noticed people are creating new accounts just to play variants such as 4PC & other variants.
I'm curious as to why someone would do this and is it allowed?
What is the benefit of making another account just to play variants?
I might be missing something.
On a side note, I'm enjoying the 4PC variant but noticed not many players are giving it a go. It's pretty interesting dynamics compared to regular chess. Weak players with low ELO rating in regular chess do well in it from my observation so I expected it to appeal more than it does. What is your take on why it fails to attract more people?
