I'm looking for three new or beginner chess players who want to improve their game on Chess.com. The coaching will be free of charge but I will ask that you later be my referrals on Chess.com for coaching. If you are interested please read the terms and conditions below carefully and if you agree with them and think you will be a good fit send me a personal message.
About myself: My name is Jordan, I'm a dad of 3 kids, USCF rating 1571 currently. Taught a group of kids chess for a school year and help teach new and beginner players at a local chess club when I am available.
Teaching method: I believe the best method to learn chess is how we learn math. Start from the basics, rules, how pieces move, how they work alone and with other pieces, how to perform basic mates and how to know if a pawn and king endgame is winning or drawn and how to force that, and learning about the various tactical motifs using a few pieces on the board to spot and execute the tactics. We focus on mastering the use of a few pieces at a time so we understand how they work with more pieces better later. We build a solid foundation to then build our future chess knowledge on. I teach students how to learn on their own in a way that gives them a steady, consistent improvement path so that they see their game improving as much as possible. We all hate feeling like we can't improve our game for lengths of time.
I believe anyone with a sound mind and a willingness to learn can play at a club level (let's say 1400 live rated at Chess.com) in chess with sufficient study time and I think I can help get players there. If you would like to try it with me for free below are my requirements for you:
Must speak English well enough to communicate efficiently. Unfortunately I am not bilingual and our communications will be in English. I admire those who are bilingual by the way!
Must be rated 1300 or below on Chess.com and an active member here ( no new accounts with few games played please). I really want to focus on new and beginner players.
Must have a Skype account. This is the method we will primarily use to communicate from during lessons.
Must have either a platinum or diamond membership on Chess.com. You need this to use the analysis board (not just view it from my understanding) in Live which we will use during lessons but also I want to know you are dedicated to learning chess which I think a membership here helps indicate.
You must join my coaching group at Chess.com. I will use it for various activities for my students, to communicate with students as a group at times, and to more easily keep track of students progress. We'll have fun together as a group!
Willing to put aside at least three hours a week to study (not PLAY!) chess and a minimum of three months. Besides lessons I will be giving homework for students to complete weekly (this could be analyzing a game, solving puzzles, reading material, so on) and I need to know you will have set aside time to complete it. I also want a long term commitment to work with you so we can see your improvement!
If you think you qualify and want to try learning with me message me please. Look forward to hearing from you!
