Toby, sheesh. I know, right? So I guess there weren't a million other actors out there. They may as well have gotten Erkle to play Fischer, it would've been about the same.

I know they have movie magic but...how tall is Toby? Fischer was like..6' 2?
Yeah, and with his "aw, shucks" persona he'll never pull off the intimidating presence that was Fischer. Really poor casting for the part.
I'd still vote for Erkle over Toby.

I think Matt Damon would be perfect but the actor has to want to do the role, be available, etc. Plus, he probably would cost a lot more. I think their choice for Spassky is very good, they just screwed up royally over the Fischer part & that's everything basically. Toby Maguire (spelling?) better pull off the acting job of his life, I just don't think he's even that good of an actor, disregarding the look for the part.
I still say Erkle over Toby though.

I agree... they have to want it.
Have you seen the actor that plays Erkle... he is actually pretty somber.
I think Matthew McConaughey could play Fischer well; he kinda has the look.

Christian Bale is a very good actor also & woulda been a much better pick. I guess it's too late now. There are many thousands of choices better than who they got. I sure hope Toby does a good acting job. I'm just not very confident that he has the ability to do that though. From the few times I've seen him act he seems kinda amatuerish, like he's just starting out or thinking about trying acting school or something, like he's not really serious about it.
& McConaughey is a good choice too.

Bale and McConaughey yes. Totally agree with Bale having a tick of an edge. Both though can pull of that intimidating look.
