The YouTube video's of Mato Jelic are very clear, and helpful.
New chess player, how do I get good?

I think you should do alot of tactics here or on chesstempo.com
watch youtube videos (chessnetwork I like alot) and chessxplained and kingskrusher
Mato Jelic doesn't seem to have any beginner videos, or maybe I just can't find them?
I'm reading Bobby Fischer teaches chess atm, which book should I read afterwards? Any recommendations?

I have EXACTLY what you need! And FREE!

These courses were designed just for beginners like you to get a running start in all 5 basic categories. Well written, to the point, and did I mention they were free?

NM Dan Heisman's recommended book list is a great resource, as are his Novice Nook articles.
For videos, I recommend Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis on YouTube.
Read one book at a time. Don't try to rush things else it starts to feel like work rather than fun.
Enjoy!

A better one step link to 15 courses (3 levels) of checkmates, tactics, openings, strategy, and endgames. Enjoy!

Hello - I know all the basic rules, how the pieces move, and I've played a couple of hundred games. However, I don't know any openings, tactics, strategies or anything. I'm not really sure what to do (ever), I just play by feel (which doesn't work well).
I want to get really good, but I have no idea where I start. Are there any must buy books for beginners, any easily understandable videos or something that I need to watch as a beginner to get a good grasp of the game? Any tips?
My father is supposed to be really really good, but of course that doesn't gurantee that I'll ever be good - or does it? How much of chess it raw talent, and how much is learned?
Hoping for good replies :)
If your father is really good, maybe you should ask him for advice
As for yourself, it depends if you want to become good at online blitz or OTB long chess. In the first case, just playing tons of blitz and solving tons of tactics puzzles should help, in the second case, I strongly recommend joining a (real) chess club.
