We know what it means, but as with bonnet and slapper, it's still sounds funny. Speaking of which, what do Brits call the entire run of a television show, since the individual seasons are called "series?"

As to Chessmaster 10, I recently started using it. I played around with Fritz 10 for a while, but I think that CM is more well suited for the novice player, it is for this one in any event. If Ubisoft develops a new version, I'll buy it at the first opportunity.

Scottish English is similar to the English English and here fags also means ciggies, however I am most certain that we here in the English English word also have the same translation for fags as you do in the Americal English.

Another area of misinterpretation I came across was when i spent time in Canada. At home we have a local (pub) called Fanny By Gaslight (old time speak for what it sounds like, need clarification then ask). These guys print T-shirts etc for the locals and this particular one read 'Fannies for Christmas' meaning going to the pub of the same name, however ir did have the double entendre of exactly that.

When wore in Canada however I did get some strage and peculiar looks.

Probably because they did not know the pub and whay on earth anyone would want a back-side for their xmas, did they think I was I an english Ciggie?

Still enough of that as for ChessChallenge, I had a version not to long ago and used the one off games for practice, these worked fine and gave good practice (although I prefered to play the monkey), but when I tried the rated challenge I found no matter what time I set or the player I chose after several moves the opponent would just tme out, has anyone else had this experiance?

Did email the makers and all they said was to uninstall and reinstall and said my computer specs were fine.

thanks

Speaking of pubs reminds me of "pissed". In American English pissed means angry and in English English Slang pissed means drunk.

Hooperxxx. We just call them series. If there's more than one series, then we just say series 1, series 2, etc...

  • I picked up the 10th edition about three weeks ago and decided to do the cmplete program, starting with the kids room. It's great to try a software program from the start, since many of use tend to skip some of the basic tutorials since we know the rules and basic pinciples of the game. I was impressed with the training programing and the kids room. However, in the kid's room I thought there were one or two questionable solutions that could have ben handled with a different move. Howeve, since I am by no means a chessmaster, I could be mistaken. I have earlier versions including the 6th, 7th, and 8th. edition. I don't know what they could add to an 11th edition other than graphical changes. Knowing my love of chessmaster, yes I'll be one of those folks buying the next edition.

What would be the main differences between Fritz 10 and Chessmaster 10? How could you compare the training features? Does Chessmaster analyses games? What about the strenght of both engine? Etc.

I may be wrong, but because there hasn't been a new version for about 3 years, the chessmaster series has finished. Most new versions that are coming out for the new consoles such as Nintendo ds, X-box 360, etc... seem to be conversions of the 10th edition. Plus the fact Josh Waitzkin, i've heard as retired from chess to concentrate on his tai chi. Please feel free to correct me, these are things i've read on the internet, and we all know how mis-quoted that can be.

What if the next Chessmaster could get the rights to most of the chess books on the market and put them in .pdf format with the game.  Hey i can dream can't i ?

Well yeah, a yank invented The Fantastic Four ( the great Stan Lee ), featuring a character called The Human Torch and NOT The Human Flashlight.

Yeah but that's because he's on fire... and not a lightbulb.

Well okay, but remember. The Americans speak English, not the English speak American.

I know, but what do you call them all collectively. For example, if you were going to reference the entire run of "Red Dwarf" or "Are You Being Served?" In America, we call the very last episode of a show, The Sopranos for instance, the series finale. What would you call the last episode of "Red Dwarf," the series 8 finale???

On an unrelated note, a lot of Americans hate it, but I absolutely loved "Little Britain."

Why would anyone want anything else, for Xmas or otherwise?

Is Chessmaster called Chess Challenge in Scottland?

...And speaking of Scottish English, I love the phrases "pure dead brilliant" and "Glasgow kiss."

ATJ1968
There's also a Glasgow smile where someone cuts you ear to ear with a stanley knife. But enough of that.
