It'll be interesting to see all the features of the app and how to analyse games with it.  One problem with the Centaur is that it had no connectivity to the PC or phone, so you could not export the PGN for analysis or re-run the game after playing.  Looks like this is improved with the Pegasus.

I recall that Lichess requires you to use a bot account if you are playing through the API (e.g. on an electronic board), and you are therefore limited to bot opponents.  I wonder if that applies to the Pegasus, or if they have some special arrangement.

You can play regular chess on lichess

The electronic chess computer industry has been relentless lately. One product improvement after another from each company on an annual basis!

Do we have any news on when this will be released? I’ve seen October and I’ve seen November. I’ve seen a website or two in Australia and England to preorder but nothing in the USA where I live and no date. I reached out to House of Staunton and they said they have no plans to sell the Pegasus.

I had an email from DGT about a month ago answering some questions I had about features. They told me they were still working on the Pegasus, which indicates that it may not even be ready to come to market.

But even if it is, with supply chain delays, and the horrendous state of parcel service in the US, I think we are looking at early 2022 if we are lucky.

In the meantime, I've been amusing myself with the Square Off Pro, the new rollable board that you can buy on HOS. I have played a few games on Lichess and here, and it works pretty well. There are things I don't like about it, especially the app, but all in all it works and has been a great addition for players like me who love computer chess boards and collect them.

I pre-ordered mine from a German web store (https://topschach.de/). According to the seller, they'll have them in stock from November 4th.

What do you all do with the DGT boards? I am on the fence about getting one.

Well, like I said, I'm a novice, one, and two I just really love computer chess boards and have a collection of them. I already have the DGT Centaur, and it plays easy and well, but it does not have the depth nor the aesthetics of the DGT SmartBoard.

For ease of use you can't beat the Millennium Chess Genius Exclusive, but the DGT SmartBoard is quickly becoming my favorite board to play with daily. I play a couple of twenty minute games against the DGT Pi clock, and because I can choose several different engines (my favorite is Rodent--as a novice it gives me human like play and mimics playing against a human of around my level very well) I get a fun and challenging game that isn't a blowout.

The DGT SmartBoard does not interface well online, in my experience;  there are other boards (like the Millennium which plays well on Lichess) that do it better, and, BTW, the new Square Off Pro interfaces here on Chess.com.

For me, I don't yet play with real people online very often because I still need some practice in the woodshed!  The DGT SmartBoard has become my go-to training board. Using the spare queens it becomes super easy to set the computer (no scrolling through the clock--just set them on particular squares and it changes mode, time, engine, level, etc. It's great!)

DGT also lets you play with the included Fritz 14, but I really haven't figured it out yet. I am a Mac guy but do have a good Windows PC as well, which I rarely used but comes in handy since DGT is really Window's based if you want to venture online.

But the truth is I could easily do without online play and be content to use DGT as a training board with that DGT Pi. I'm really glad I bought this thing.

For live online OTB chess, I don't think you can beat Millennium systems through Lichess. If you are looking for live opponents Square Off Pro is also worth a look because it plays here. I'm waiting for the topic of this thread-- DGT Pegasus-- which will also interface here. If it's anything close to how good the DGT Centaur is for ease of use, it will be the next board I buy for my collection!

Enjoy!

Good Day!

I have had the same experience connecting the DGT Smart Board to Chess.Com--it just doesn't work for me. I have better luck with Lichess but if you move a piece incorrectly on the board the whole Lichess game goes off the rails.

I am hopeful the Pegasus will make playing on Chess.Com possible. I wish DGT would spend some time improving the interface with the DGT Smart Boards, but I understand it's a low priority. As it is, I enjoy the DGT board with the Pi very much and am satisfied to use it for this purpose.

Are you referring to the Pegasus by DGT? A guy involved in development posts on the Hiarcs forums noted that it’s been delayed until the fifteenth of November. It was supposed to be the fourth of November. The price will be right around $300 USD.

I use DGT smartboard. It works erratically with chess.com and perfectly with lichess. So the problem is chess.com implementation.

Just correct the physical board and refresh the DGT play tab whenever you need to sync

Thanks for that tip!  I'll try this!

Yes it does. You need to install the DGT App which will be released anytime soon. The DGT App connects to chess.com and/or lichess.

Ah so its a separate app for each site.  tyvm.  I'm gong to be honest I didn't get that far into the video.   My apologies.

I don't think it is a separate app for each site per say.  I believe DGT will have a proprietary app which allows you to play games both on chess.com / Lichess / and against the AI all directly through the DGT App.  Additionally, the Pegasus will be able to connect directly to the Chess.com app without going through DGT's app.  This will allow you access to all features of Chess.com

All I can say about that is that someone associated with DGT said on the Hiarcs forum that you will be able to use the Pegasus with the chess.com app as well as the DGT app. Take that for what it’s worth, which, admittedly, isn’t much.
