Cool!
New Fischer Film?

Chess movies are mostly junk. What type of people ACTUALLY want to watch chess movies? Chess players. What people do these movies alienate the most? CHESS PLAYERS. Yes it is interesting to hear the same story about Bobby takin down the big bad Soviet machine, but I want ANALYSIS.

Chepesiuk; If you want to know about films, ask trysts in her movie review thread. She's forgotten more about films than you could ever learn. Your comment; "its planned to be a wide-release"; I dought it.

Honestly, who cares what you want? You think you are all high and mighty, demanding ANALYSIS from some Tobey McGuire movie? Get over yourself, dude.
LOL, don't you have some pictures of Carlsen to squirt your load over?

Fischer was intimidating--the last word I'd use to describe Tobey. Even his name sounds like a kitty-cat. Maguire would have to have some incredible acting chops to pull off playing Fischer properly. I don't see that happening.

Fixing_A_Hole; post #9; that was good. I like that. This week he's squirting over Kasparov in the N.Y.Times. Its big news to him. The rest of us knew the election was coming.

Can everyone please PM trysts to let her know. Big Fischer fan.

It's not the height difference that's important, it's the personality, the presence, the essence of the character of Fischer that I don't see Tobey pulling off. They can do all the camera angles and technical tricks they want to imply otherwise, but I don't see the intimidating presence that was Fischer being accurately portrayed by Tobey. And I like Leiv Schreiber, but I would have casted an actual Russian actor to play Spassky.

My first thoughts were that Tobey isn't dark enough to be Fischer, and the other guy just doesn't really look (or seem?) like Spassky...
But, alas, the choices have been made. If the movie is set to release this year, they've probably started filming already. All we can do is wait and hope.

Tobey as Bobby? Horrible casting. It should be someone like Nicholas Cage.
really, a bit all...
I think Toby is okay...
anyway he holds the rights over the film

Why do we want Nicholas Cage overacting with strange hair...
what was the last good film he made?
I think the remake of Bad Lieutenant, but apart from that his last maybe 10 ten films are all worth of a Razzie

This would be better as a comedy. Will Ferrell as Spassky. Sacha Cohen (or Ben Stiller) as Tal, and Matthew McConaghey as Fischer.
Given the last performances of McConaghey, he would be almost the best choice for the role
