Hover over "Learn" at the far left side of your monitor, then go all the way down to the bottom option "Rules" which explains how the pieces move. Once you've got that, watch a few games in progress to see how we exploit those rules. Now you're ready!

Also, I concur with Pikelemi's advice to avoid speed chess, and focus on playing long time controls, even "Daily" chess...

when I make a move, my piece would drop to a different square i did not intend to move to
