perhaps begin study of the scotch gambit...lookup on youtube :) Try to think most about king safety and development of pieces. Strategy comes with pattern recognition after many games. I wish you the best of luck and if you want....add me as a friend and I can teach you and play games with you.

Hello everyone! I've been playing Chess for years and years, but only recently actually started really "playing" chess. When I was a kid I would play against my dad, or against a teacher, I even played in a chess tournament at school where I finished 3rd. I had a friend who was a champion of some sort, whom I beat using "fools" mate because he underestimated me.
That being said, I'm awful at Chess. The tournament had four people in it, the friend never lost against me again, and my dad would always "miss" check mate.
I've studied openings (I like the Italian, Giuoco Piano, Evans Gambit lines the best, and Ruy is super aggressive, which is how I want to play). I've read about mid-game strategy, and I'm still pretty bad about valuation of pieces to determine the correct continuations, but I'm getting there. I get outsmarted end game all the time, but hey, I've played 7 games on Chess.com and like, 700 on my phone (I beat the hardest difficulty!!... Once)
My question is two-fold. I'm a student of any game I play, and strategy games are my thing. I've ordered a few different books that I've seen posted on here, and I know playing will definitely help me improve, but, my first question is:
As a new player, who is actively seeking to improve at a rapid pace, what are the three things that I should learn and "master" first as white side? I'd rather lose every black side game, and have a good white game strategy, then to try to master what IMO is two very different games at the same time. Example of what I'm looking for is:
1) e4 Lines
2) Midgame Gambits
3) I'm not sure what to put here!
Then my second question is, when I play live chess, what type of game is the most basic? I see all these games like 5|5 (blitz?), and I've been playing that because it seems fairly basic, but what game type is the closest thing to "official" chess, if there was an "official" chess game?
Thanks everyone for any help you can give me! I'm definitely looking forward to seeing ya'lls answers so I can start to get better. My goal is to get back to 1200 and maintain it through my first 100 live chess games (so, when I finish my 100th game, be 1200 or higher). After that, who knows, maybe I'll change my name to Bobby Fischer.
