In my opinion: Explain later. (Because it's more instructional for them...so it's more beneficial to them.)

I played this game with a friend of mine. I thought I was being nice with 12... Qe7 since there was a game stopping move, but now I'm starting to think it'd have been nicer to show them why their hasty move was wrong. So, the question is, is it nicer to show them during the game why their move is wrong or explain later?
